Funny because I do beat my patients up and they like it.
However as a therapist myself I gotta set the record straight:
"Masseuse" is a term explicitly used for female massage therapists. "Masseur" would be the term for male massage therapists. No therapist uses either term though, and a male would never call himself the feminine term.
The term ‘masseuse’ is an outdated word from 1876. They're also french words and nobody uses them anymore. Its like calling your flight attendant "stewardess". "Masseuse" also has sex-work connotations, a negative stereotype that was prevalent in the 80s.
The improper word use took away from enjoying it fully.
